Build a Hen House Yourself - Good Idea Or Bad?

There are 2 ways to get a hen house for you flock: buy a pre-made one or build one yourself. A lot of people are choosing to build a hen house by themselves and many of them are turning out beautiful and of high quality.

But is building a hen house by yourself such a good idea?

Buying a pre-made coop has its benefits because someone has already done some of the preliminary work for you. But what you need to remember is that you will need to assemble the chicken coop yourself anyway. This is where most of the work comes in.

A lot of people have no idea how to design a hen house and so they believe their only option is to buy a pre-made one. But there are guides on how to build a chicken coop which include various plans that you can follow easily. So, even if you're not that experienced with wood work, you can still construct an excellent home for your flock.

By building a hen house yourself, you can customize it better to your yard and the size of your flock. A pre-made one may be of the wrong size.

I won't go into the joy of creating something yourself. I love DIY projects as they give me a sense of accomplishment. This is something which you may not share with me, but if you do, then there's no reason why you shouldn't make this another project to be proud of.

But the main reason why you need to build a hen house yourself is the cost. By making this coop yourself you can easily save more than 50% of the cost. Imagine that: over 50%. And you can make an even better house than one you would have bought. A lot of other people have done it and so can you.
